TREE IS CUT, SITE IS CLEARED 10/13/2006 Hello everyone- hey everyone - it has been a good, busy summer. We have made much progress on the skatepark. Update on River City Skatepark progress: The site is cleared - Larry Stone Excavators - member of the Burien Rotary Club - graciously cleared the site for us. Thank you Larry! The telephone lines were removed from the site and moved to Sullivan Street. Mat White worked with his neighbor to remove the willow tree. Thank you Mat!!! The stump remains and we will plant the new growth from the stump along the back fence to create a "living fence" and buffer for the neighbors. The stump will be removed by the end of the year. Stay tuned on the date for that...Allen and Dagan the sawyers milled the non-rotten parts of the tree into slabs that can be used for tables and other furniture. Thanks Dagan and Allen! Also great thanks to Claudia Arana with the City of Seattle for her help with the tree. Catherine and Darin are working up a design for the entryway to the park. When they have a draft design for review, we will have a meeting and discuss it. The entry gate will be built in the next few months. Chris from Grindline is working up a design and budget for a PHASE 1 park - to be built by the end of the year. Thanks Grindline! South Park will get a street skating plaza for Christmas! The Rotary Club and ECOSS are sponsoring a benefit lunch with exrtreme sports legend Warren Miller in early December to raise funds for phase 2 of the park (bowls and more street features). Next meeting will be October 26th at the Neighborhood Center. Check the meetings section for details. thanks. If you haven't yet, check out Marginal Way before it starts raining. They are rockin. |
